August 2017 Eclipse Wyoming

August 2017 Eclipse Wyoming

August 25, 2017

I was really looking forward to shooting the total solar eclipse on August 21, 2017, often referred to as "The Great American Eclipse"

It was most important that we figure out the optimal location to view the celestial event, meaning: best weather and clear skies. Equally important, I needed to factor in "Plan B locations" - those places that I could most easily drive to if my #1 location ended up with a forecast of poor visibility for Eclipse Day.

With that as our criteria, we sat down and charted the total eclipse pathway on a map of the country. Then, we analyzed the average weather forecast for the potential locations, paying special attention to rainfall and cloud cover.

This helped us narrow down our target destination: we needed to be somewhere between the northwestern part of Wyoming to southwestern Nebraska.

We made the right choice.
